The Roosevelt Home

Historic Estates
The Hudson River Valley area is home to many grand estates — from the home of one of our greatest presidents to majestic mansions of famous wealthy families. The Franklin D. Roosevelt Home (800-967-2283) in Hyde Park is the lifelong home of FDR, and includes a museum on his life and works, as well as tours of the home and a lovely rose garden. Just down the road from FDRs home is Eleanor's home Valkill (800-967-2283)

Vanderbuilt Mansion

and the formal gardens and spectacular river views of the Vanderbilt Mansion (800-967-2283). Two homes of the prominent Livingston family Montgomery Place (845-758-5461) and Clermont (518-537-4240)

are now state-owned and offer tours or the mansion and gardens, as well as carriage rides, picknicking grounds, and rental spaces for weddings. Also worth a visit are the Staatsburgh (845-889-8851), furnished in the styles of Louis XIV, XV and XVI; the Victorian Wilderstein Home (845-876-4818), replete with Tiffany interiors and windows; and Frederic Churchs Moorish-style castle, Olana (518-828-0135), with stunning views of the Hudson.
